“We welcome this approach to relations with Russia: to act, not to be afraid,” the minister emphasized.

He added that such a bold approach is also relevant for the peace process and the approach of lasting peace.

It will be recalled that on January 7, the American military took control of two tankers, including a vessel flying the Russian flag, which they pursued for more than two weeks. The vessels are accused of violating the sanctions policy.

The NYT reported that the Russian government had officially sent a diplomatic request to the United States to end its pursuit of the tanker.

The Ministry of Transport of Russia said that the United States had no right to detain a tanker flying the Russian flag.

The White House said President Trump is not afraid to continue detaining oil tankers under sanctions, despite fears of rising tensions with Russia.
