The Ukrainian defense-industrial complex has launched the production of 5.45×39 and 5.56×45 mm cartridges for the Ukrainian army.

This is reported by the Telegram channel “About Weapons”, transmits “Military”.

As reported, the authors of the blog published a photo from the training ground where 5.45×39 mm Ukrainian-made cartridges were fired. According to the information on the packaging, they were manufactured in June of this year.

According to the marking, the cartridges are equipped with a bullet with an all-metal shell weighing 4 grams. Its tail part has a rounded conical shape, which should have a positive effect on ballistic characteristics and shot accuracy.

The authors of “About Weapons” reported that the ballistics of Ukrainian cartridges when fired at a distance of 400 meters is similar to that of Soviet army cartridges 7N6 (5.45 PS).

“Military” noted that after the Russian occupation of the “Luhansk Ammunition Plant” in 2014, “Ukroboronprom” lost its capacity to produce small arms ammunition. The resumption of production is a significant event for the Ukrainian defense industry.

Currently, it is not known how localized the production of cartridges is. Most likely, the country manufactures casings and assembles cartridges from ready-made components. However, such complex processes as the manufacture of powders, capsules and bullets of complex construction are unlikely to be mastered by the Ukrainian defense industry.

We will remind:

Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umyerov notedthat the potential of the Ukrainian defense industry allows for a significant increase in production, but this requires foreign investment.
