Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, who headed the Group of Seven, Melanie Joly, had a telephone conversation with the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Andrii Sybiga, the parties reported on January 3.

Jolie indicated that this was her first official call since Canada’s presidency of the G7 began.

“Ukraine remains a priority for the G7. We discussed the current situation and further needs. Canada will always remain a strong ally of Ukraine,” Jolie said.

According to Sybiga, the conversation concerned the “good progress” of Ukrainian-Canadian relations in 2024, the situation on the battlefield, Ukraine’s defense needs and the main upcoming international events.

“I appreciate the confirmation that Ukraine will be a priority during Canada’s presidency of the G7 in 2025,” the minister added.

The presidency of the “Group of Seven” lasts for a year – at the beginning of 2025, Canada took over the presidency from Italy.

The G7 countries include Germany, Great Britain, the USA, Canada, France, Italy and Japan.
