Ukraine is studying European models of electoral law, including electronic voting. This is done in order to hold elections after the end of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

This is reported by Politico.

The publication notes that holding free and fair elections will be of key importance for the normalization of the situation in the war-torn country and, in particular, for its aspiration to join the European Union.

Olena Shulyak, head of the Committee on the Organization of State Power in the Ukrainian Parliament, said in a comment to the publication that the authorities are considering models of electoral law.

“We need to understand how we can conduct elections in a democratic way, using the best and most effective practices,” she said.

Shulyak emphasized that Ukraine now has a huge problem with voters, as people have gone abroad.

“According to various estimates, there are only 6.5 million internally displaced persons,” she said.

Politico writes that even after the war, one of the main main problems in the country will remain the ability to vote for citizens who are scattered around the world, including occupied territories that have been seized by Russia.

“Where are they now, where will they vote – all these issues need to be resolved,” Shulyak added.

She continued that for this purpose, Ukrainian officials are studying various European election models in order to implement practices that would allow free and fair elections to be held in our country after the end of the war.

“We are interested in the nuances of electronic voting and the technical assessment of other alternative voting options, in particular from the point of view of IT security,” she said.

Olena Shulyak informed that deputies are also considering voting by mail, personal voting abroad on election day, voting by proxy and online voting.

We remind you that the Constitution of Ukraine and the law do not allow presidential elections to be held in wartime. At the same time, there are those who are so hungry for power that they want to fight inside the country. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

Earlier, Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, noted that the country does not have any prerequisites for holding elections during the war, which continues with high intensity.
