Although the Pentagon has not yet provided any numbers, it is believed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine may currently have up to 50 long-range ATACMS missiles for strikes on Russian territory, according to The Times article.

As the authors of the article note, Ukraine has enough launchers to launch them, but in conditions of limited supply, the Ukrainian military command will have to carefully select targets on Russian territory for attack.

With a range of more than 300 kilometers, ATACMS could threaten about 245 Russian military facilities, from air bases to ammunition depots, according to the Institute for the Study of War.

Permission to use long-range missiles for strikes on the Russian Federation — what is known

On November 17, The New York Times newspaper reported that US President Joe Biden allowed Ukraine to use ATACMS missiles to strike deep into the territory of the Russian Federation. As the NYT points out, the weapon will likely be used first against Russian and North Korean forces to protect Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.

The Reuters agency, citing sources, wrote that Ukraine plans to carry out the first long-range attacks in the coming days.

At the same time, the French publication Le Figaro reported that Great Britain and France also allowed Ukraine to strike deep into Russian territory with SCALP/Storm Shadow missiles, but then removed this information from its publications.

On November 18, the publication Axios noted that the US gave Ukraine permission to strike with long-range weapons only in the part of the Kursk region where North Korean troops are located.

On November 19, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine has long-range capabilities. He announced this at a press conference with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Kyiv.

According to Zelenskyi, Ukraine has long-range drones and missiles of its own production. The president also announced the presence of American ATACMS missiles.

“Ukraine has long-range drones of its own production, we already have a long-range Neptune, and not just one. Now we have ATACMS. And we will use all this,” the president noted.
