The “Secure Border” project is an important part of strengthening Ukraine’s national security, in particular in the direction of the border with Belarus, which is defined as threatening. Andriy Demchenko, the spokesman of the DPSU, told about this on the air of the telethon, he reports UNN.

Details

Demchenko said that border security is extremely important, as it includes protection against illegal activity, increased security in border areas, and openness to cross-border traffic, including those who cross the border with good intentions. According to him, the security of the border and the strengthening of the state border are determined by the internal stability plan of Ukraine, which the president spoke about. He noted that there is a strategy of integrated border management, which is recognized as key and basic in the strategic development of Ukrainian statehood. It is a combination of various components to create security and active cross-border traffic.

Also, according to Demchenko, it is necessary to strengthen the border in terms of engineering, in particular, not only to destroy detours, to create continuous ditches, but also to install various types of barriers. He added that they are actively working on expanding the video surveillance system, installing the maximum number of video cameras to control each section of the border, and rapid response of response teams to illegal crossing attempts.

Demchenko emphasized that approaches to strengthening the border depend on different areas: the border with the countries of the European Union (approximately 1,400 km), the border with Moldova (approximately 1,200 km) and the border with Belarus (over 1,080 km).

In particular, we are actively paying attention to the border with Belarus, because this direction is threatening for us. In this area, in addition to engineering fortification, fortifications, strongholds, firing positions, a system of trenches and trenches are also being created in this area, so that our soldiers who are in this direction have every opportunity to counter any threat, if it occurs again from the territory Belarusians

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, announced that in 2024, large-scale implementation of modern technologies for border protection will begin:

– deployed a video surveillance system with thermal imagers;

– expanded the use of aerial monitoring;

– introduced European principles of integrated border management.

In April, the Coordination Center for Integrated Border Management was opened on the basis of the Situation Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Its main function is to monitor the operational situation at the border in real time, 24/7.
