Ukraine strongly condemned the violation of the territorial integrity of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the killing of UN peacekeepers by militants supported by neighboring Rwanda.

“We consider it inadmissible to spread threats regarding the further seizure of other cities and territories of the DRC, which is a gross violation of the norms and principles of international law and the UN Charter,” – said in a comment on the department’s website.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the attacks against the forces of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the DRC (MONUSCO), which led to the death of members of the Mission, are outrageous.
“We call on the parties to find ways to end hostilities, achieve lasting peace and final settlement of the armed conflict, which has led to irreparable human losses of Congolese people and the destruction of civil infrastructure facilities in the DRC,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged.
The commentary also emphasizes that in this regard, Ukraine supports international efforts to resolve the conflict in the east of the DRC by peaceful means, in particular within the framework of the Luanda process, which is being mediated by Angola.
Ukraine is ready to actively participate in the provision of humanitarian aid, in particular, in the field of food security, as well as elimination of the consequences of the armed conflict.
Earlier, Rwanda-backed Congolese rebels from the M23 movement announced the capture of the large city of Goma in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The mass media reported the death of international peacekeepers, and thousands of residents left their homes due to fears that the multi-year conflict could once again erupt into a large-scale regional war. M23 had previously briefly captured Goma in 2012 before being defeated and inactive for almost a decade. Now they are back, with the aim of long-term occupation of the region and extraction of its valuable rare minerals, according to UN experts.
