The Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine, Katarina Maternova, said that Ukraine has a “window of opportunity” of approximately two to two and a half years to implement the key reforms necessary to join the European Union.
According to her, this period will be decisive for the fulfillment of all the conditions that will allow the country to move to the final stage of integration.
The European Commission has previously published a report on EU enlargement, which indicates indicative deadlines for candidates. The document states that Montenegro can complete membership negotiations in 2026, Albania in 2027, and Moldova and Ukraine in 2028.
Maternova emphasized that these dates are not legal obligations, but they determine the desired dynamics of Community expansion.
The diplomat emphasized that reforms are not only a requirement of Brussels, but primarily the interest of Ukrainians themselves.
She noted that the countries that have already passed the path to the EU have proven that the implementation of European standards increases the efficiency of public administration, strengthens democracy and improves the quality of life of citizens.
That is why Ukraine should take advantage of the opportunity for deep and stable transformations.
