Vlad Cherevko I have been interested in all kinds of electronics and technologies since the early 2000s. I like to play computer games and understand the work of different gadgets. I regularly monitor the news of the technology in the world and write materials about it.
According to the Ukrainian company Swarmer, which has developed the appropriate software, drones are able to independently determine the order of impact, adapt to changes, for example, in the case of discharge of a battery of one of the apparatus, and perform tasks in the group. This technology is a new stage in the War of the drones, as it can allow at the same time to run tens or thousands of devices to break defense of the enemy target – from a separate object to the city.
A recent operation conducted by our military included three drones that decided on their own when attacking the Russian position. According to Sergiy Kuprienko, Swarmer CEO, at the beginning of the task, the operator transfers the target search area to the drones and gives the command to attack it after detection.
Further, drones do everything on their own: one conducts intelligence, finds a target and lays it a route. Other drones then attack it, independently determining the moment of discharge of ammunition. It is noted that the attack is performed by large quadcopters capable of dropping 25 small bombs or grenades along the trench line.

The Wall Street Journal
The company software allows you to reduce the number of people involved: instead of nine operators in normal mode, with the Swarmer system is enough three – a planner, navigator and operator.
The Armed Forces officer using Swarmer technology reported that his unit had used it more than one hundred times. Three drones are usually used, but other units were launched up to eight devices at a time. Testing was carried out with groups of up to 25 drones. Swarmer is also preparing to test a swarm of 100 drones.
The use of swarm avoids the intervention in the enemy’s signal, as the drones coordinate with each other at close range.
There are also some disadvantages of this technology. In particular, the use of artificial intelligence in combat conditions creates anxiety that automated systems can make independent decisions that affect the life or death of both the military and civilians.
Also, the use of drones with such a system makes them more expensive, which can adversely affect their mass purchase. In addition, there are some problems with Swarmer. According to the Ukrainian officer, at some stage, drones exchanged too much information that overloaded their network.
The technology was first used by the defense forces for mines about a year ago. However, it is now increasingly used in Russian military, equipment and infrastructure.
