Ukraine and Poland announced the meeting of the working group on historical issues, which is scheduled for the end of January 2025.
This happened after the publication of a joint statement by the Ministers of Culture of Ukraine and the Republic of Poland.
According to the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the meeting of the working group is aimed at settling issues related to the right to dignified burial of victims of wars and repressions in Polish-Ukrainian relations. It is noted that the first meeting of the group took place in Lviv in December 2024, where they discussed places that need exhumation and search works. The parties also exchanged information on objects requiring additional attention.
The Ministry of Culture emphasizes the importance of this dialogue to meet the expectations of the public, in particular the relatives of the victims. The Ukrainian side has already made a positive decision on granting permission for exhumation works, while the Polish side is currently considering Ukrainian proposals.
We will remind you that the Minister of Defense of Poland, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysh, believes that official Warsaw should not approve Ukraine’s membership in the European Union in the future until the issue of the Volyn tragedy of 1943 is resolved.
