However, according to the Ukrainian analyst and drone operator with the call sign “Alex”, two fixed-wing scouts — Vector (Germany) and FlyEye (Poland) — performed best.

He said this in a comment to Defense News. In his opinion, the effectiveness of these systems is explained by the fact that their manufacturers have direct contact with units that use drones on the front, and promptly improve the technique.

“They receive feedback directly from the military, quickly make changes to the design and send the updated systems back. These companies have their representative offices, repair and research centers in Ukraine,” Alex stressed.

Thanks to operation in difficult combat conditions, manufacturers were able to identify shortcomings, eliminate them and even establish local production in Ukraine. An example was the company Quantum Systems, which modernized its Vector precisely on the basis of Ukrainian experience.

However, not all Western drones have been successful. As Defense Express writes, some models were completely ineffective due to weak resistance to Russian electronic warfare (EW) systems.

“Some European manufacturers admit that they have never tested their drones under the conditions of such obstacles that exist on the Ukrainian battlefield,” he noted.

American-made Skydio drones turned out to be especially problematic – despite the fact that it was from this company’s drones that the US Army once dropped combat grenades for the first time. In Ukraine, however, they showed unreliable work in conditions of active electronic surveillance, and even the manufacturer himself recognized the low quality of his systems.

“Alex” also emphasized that the problem is not only in technology, but also in the lack of information exchange:

“There are knowledge gaps between many European and American companies about the real situation at the front. When the information reaches them, it is often already out of date.”

According to him, this also applies to a part of Ukrainian manufacturers who do not have direct contact with combat units.

Drones in war are a hidden threatAs UNIAN reported, over the course of a year, Russia has created a complex system to counter Ukrainian reconnaissance drones, and the key element in it is not so much anti-aircraft drones as radar stations, in particular the SKVP radar (Airspace Control System).

Specialist Serhiy “Flash” Beskrestnov explained that the full-fledged operation of high-precision weapons, which include systems such as HIMARS, depends on reliable and up-to-date intelligence. If the enemy blocks the approach to targets through a network of radars and anti-aircraft drones, then rocket artillery strikes will lose their effectiveness.
