US President-elect Donald Trump plans to bring both sides to the negotiating table, and thus end Russia’s war against Ukraine, said Florida Republican Congressman Mike Waltz, nominated for the position of US President’s national security adviser, in a comment to the Voice of America after the Republicans’ meeting with Trump on 13 November, writes UNN.

The president has made it clear that he wants to bring both sides to the negotiating table. It is focused on ending war, not continuing it

Waltz added that the vision of the security policy regarding Ukraine depends on the newly elected US President Donald Trump.

“It depends not on me, but on the president’s decision,” said the nominee for the position of adviser to the US president on national security.

Addition

Waltz will replace Jake Sullivan as national security adviser. The national security adviser is a powerful position in the presidential administration, which, however, does not require confirmation by the Senate. According to Reuters, in this role, Waltz will be responsible for informing Trump about key national security issues and coordinating with various agencies.

On November 12, Donald Trump announced his intention to appoint former special forces officer, congressman Mike Waltz to the role of national security adviser in his future administration.

Waltz retired from the National Guard and chaired a subcommittee on the House Armed Services Committee. He served on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

In Congress, Mike Waltz initially supported bills to help Ukraine, declaring the need for victory, and came to Kyiv as part of congressional delegations.

However, in September 2023, Mike Waltz wrote that “the era of blank checks for Ukraine from Congress is over,” and in April 2024 he voted against additional funding of $60 billion.
