It is noted that the candidate answered several questions at the Senate hearing. In particular, Senator from the state of Maine Angus King asked why Hegseth did not make any mention of Ukraine or Russia in his opening remarks.
“Is this a code word for the fact that we are going to leave Ukraine?” – asked King.
Hegseth replied that this was not the case and that Donald Trump had previously made it clear that he wanted to end the Russian-Ukrainian war.
We know who the aggressor is. We know who the good guy is. We would like this (the end of the war, – ed.) to be as beneficial as possible for Ukrainians. But this war must end
Asked by Democratic Senator from Nevada Jackie Rosen whether the Trump administration would support Ukraine, Hegseth replied that he would “give the president his best advice.”

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced the transfer of the strongest positions in foreign policy to the future Trump administration. The US has already provided Ukraine with $102 billion, and its allies – $158 billion in aid.
As UNN previously wrote, Ukraine’s European allies held private negotiations with Trump’s team regarding support for Ukraine. Officials expressed cautious optimism that the new US administration will not force Kyiv to prematurely negotiate with Russia.
