US President Joe Biden has instructed the Secret Service to provide the necessary resources to protect the presidential candidate.
“I am relieved that the former president is unharmed… As I have said repeatedly, there is no place in our country for political violence or any violence, and I have instructed my team to continue to ensure that the Secret Service has all the resources, capabilities and safeguards necessary to ensuring the security of the former president,” the White House said in a statement.
Earlier, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation said it was investigating a shooting that happened on September 15 near a golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Secret Service agents, who protect Trump, spotted an armed man in bushes near the golf course, not far from where Trump was playing, law enforcement officials said. Agents fired warning shots and the suspect fled, but was later apprehended. Authorities believe the man wanted to shoot Trump
Trump said he was safe and well.
The US Secret Service said it was investigating the incident.
The alleged assassination attempt on Trump comes just two months after he was shot at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Trump was shot in the ear after Pennsylvania resident Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on him at a July 13 rally, according to investigators. The suspect, whose motives are still unclear, was shot dead. Before that, he managed to kill one of the rally’s attendees and injure several others.
