US President Donald Trump has signed a bill to shut down the government, the so-called shutdown.

Direct speech Trump: “I am pleased to sign the Consolidated Appropriations Act to immediately reopen the federal government and fund the vast majority of operations through the end of the fiscal year.”

Details: CNN adds that the signed bill ended a partial government shutdown after three days and provided funding for a number of critical agencies, but created another funding gap for the Department of Homeland Security two weeks later.

What preceded: House Democrats have told GOP leaders they won’t help pass a government funding package through a fast-track process.
