US President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday, December 22, promised to abandon transgender-oriented policies in the military, schools and sports on the first day of his presidency.
Trump said this at an event for young conservatives in Phoenix, Arizona, AFP reports.
“I will sign an executive order to end child sexual mutilation, abandon transgender policies in the military and in our elementary, middle, and high schools,” Trump said.
The politician emphasized that he would stop it “transgender madness,” in particular, will keep men out of women’s sports.
“The United States government will officially recognize only two genders – male and female,” the president-elect said.
Last week, Congress blocked funding for some benefits for transgender children whose parents serve in the military while approving the annual defense budget.
Trump’s actions against transgender people – what is known
On February 3, 2017, the presidential administration of Donald Trump announced the cancellation of the rules for the use of public toilets by transgender people, which were introduced under his predecessor Barack Obama.
On August 26 of the same year, Trump signed an executive order banning transgender people from serving in the US military.
On January 25, 2021, US President Joe Biden signed an executive order that lifted this ban.
The US president-elect is preparing to issue an executive order after his inauguration on January 20, 2025, which will effectively ban transgender people from serving in the US military. It is planned “on medical grounds” to release thousands of such people who are already in their service.
