This was stated by Canada Minister Melanie Jolie, quoted by Politico.
“We know that relationships will never be former. This is my message to Europeans: relations with the US will never be the same,” she said at a meeting of NATO foreign ministers.
Canada, EU countries, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea have received high import duties from the United States, unprecedented since the Great Depression of the 1930s. Jelly considers that duties hit US key trading partners.
“We buy more in the United States than in the United Kingdom, France, China and Japan combined. When you feel about your best client, as you treat us … It means that you want to dramatically change how you work,” said Canada.
She also noted that the imposed duties would eventually turn into an indirect tax for the American people who would pay for everything by buying imported goods at a higher price. Jolie urged Europeans to “bring this message” to US citizens to influence the US administration.
New American duties: The latest newsAccording to UNIAN, the US law group sued the President of the United States through the introduction of rigid duties on imports. Lawyers say that Trump illegally bypassed Congress and the law on extraordinary international economic powers of 1977.
Trump himself has already stated that he was ready to reduce duties if other countries offer him something “phenomenal”. “Duties give us great opportunities for negotiations,” Trump said, adding that “every country called us.”
