Newly elected US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that his administration will focus on the Russian-Ukrainian war.

“We will work very hard on Russia and Ukraine. This has to stop. Russia and Ukraine must stop,” he said at an event in Florida, CNN reports.

However, the newly elected US president did not specify exactly how this should happen.

The day before, Mike Waltz, nominated for the position of presidential adviser on national security, said that Donald Trump plans to bring both sides to the negotiating table, and thus end Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Earlier, The Telegraph, citing Trump’s entourage, reported that the newly elected US president may call on European and British troops to secure an 800-mile (over 1,200 kilometers) buffer zone between the Russian and Ukrainian armies as part of a plan to freeze the war between the two countries.

During the election campaign, Trump promised to end the war in Ukraine soon. At the same time, various media sources claim that Trump does not have a clear plan – apart from the general vision that the conflict should end, probably due to concessions from both sides.

The position of the current US administration is that any decisions about the terms of peace with Russia should be made by the authorities of Ukraine. The United States is ready to help Ukraine in the fight against aggression “as much as necessary”, but without the direct participation of the American military in hostilities.
