“US President Donald Trump signed a decree on the launch of the state program “Mission Genesis”. The implementation of the project should provide the United States with technological superiority thanks to the expansion of computing capacities, access to federal data and deepening of cooperation between the state and the private sector.”, — write: www.pravda.com.ua

Details: On Monday evening, Trump officially launched the initiative, which observers and experts are already comparing in terms of scale and ambition to the “Manhattan Project”. The main task of “Genesis Mission” is to stimulate research, development and applied application of artificial intelligence technologies in the real sector of the US economy and science.

Michael Kratsios, Scientific Advisor to the President and Director of the Office of Science and Technology, has been appointed the head of the program. According to the decree, the program provides an unprecedented increase in computing resources and opening access to vast arrays of federal data that were previously inaccessible to AI developers.
One of the key elements of the initiative will be the creation of the “American Science and Security Platform”. Energy Minister Chris Wright is responsible for its deployment. The program aims to centralize the infrastructure needed for the technological breakthrough, providing researchers with the computing power they need.
The order states that Mission Genesis will create an integrated ecosystem for the use of federal scientific data sets, the world’s largest collection of information accumulated over decades of public investment. This data will be used to train fundamental scientific models and create AI agents capable of testing new hypotheses and automating research processes.
In addition, the order requires the Secretary of Energy to identify, within 90 days, a list of systems and data needed to implement the program, including “resources that may be provided by industry partners.”
The program provides that within 270 days, artificial intelligence will be used to solve critical scientific and technological tasks of national importance. These are the fields of advanced manufacturing, robotics, biotechnology, and nuclear fission and fusion research.
Mission Genesis builds on the existing infrastructure of the National AI Research Resource (NAIRR), established in 2020 under the National Artificial Intelligence Initiative Act. NAIRR has brought together dozens of federal agencies – from the Pentagon to NASA – and private companies, including OpenAI, Google and Palantir, to form a single research ecosystem.
Former NAIRR task force co-chair Lynn Parker emphasized that government support for AI research is fundamental to long-term progress. According to her, such investments form the basis for breakthrough innovations that eventually translate into commercial products, but require decades of preparation. She noted that without systemic investment, the US risks losing its technological leadership.
Prehistory:
- In late October, the US Department of Energy announced a partnership with AMD to launch two new supercomputers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
- In early November, the department also announced plans to expand the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility by integrating powerful Nvidia chips to solve tasks in the fields of quantum computing and artificial intelligence.
- Energy Secretary Chris Wright has previously emphasized that winning the “artificial intelligence race” requires creative partnerships that bring together the best scientific talent and advanced manufacturing capabilities that the American science and technology industry has to offer.
