Archimandrite, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of the University College of Stockholm Cyril Govorun in an interview with Radio NV – about the formation of Trumpism as an ideology that will exist, after President Donald Trump, common and distinctive features with Putinism, and how Ukraine is working with them.
– We will talk about the ideology of Trumpism. Because, as it looks like, another election of Donald Trump has become a certain point of break for the whole democratic world, for all institutions, for all values. And probably, Mr Cyril, I will start with the periphery of Francis Fukuya, who once talked about the end of history, now we can talk about, at least, the threat of the end of democracy – both in the US and in the world.
– In a sense, we can talk about the end of history – at least the story as we knew it. And this is the beginning of a new head in modern history, at least the Western world. So yes, it is not an exaggeration, although Fukuyama, when he wrote about the end of history, he meant something else. It is the fact that in connection with the collapse of the Soviet Union, those ideologies that supported the Soviet Union were defeated.
That is, during the Cold War there was an antagonism between communist ideology and the ideology, which in the Soviet Union was called capitalism. Although she did not call herself. And when the end of communism came, Fukuyama proclaimed that everything was the end of history, in the sense that the ideological confrontation between the two great ideologies came to an end.
Similarly, at the end of World War II, another American intellectual Daniel Bell proclaimed the end of ideologies that caused the Second World War. It is fascism, Nazism, on the one hand, and communism, on the other.
Both in Moscow and in Kiev they changed the script. What are Trump’s negotiations about war
And so we see that all attempts to bury ideological confrontation, confrontation on the ideological basis are not justified. Both after Bella and after Fukuya, this confrontation continues, ideological currents take new forms. And now we can say that old, still interwar ideological forms, which were then embodied in the form of fascism and Nazism as a more radical form of fascism, are now revived in the form of so -called “Russian world, Russian world.
And in fact, we see some signs of ideologization of what we have already called Trumpism.
