Trump does not rule out establishing control over Greenland and the Panama Canal by military means

“No, I can’t guarantee you either of those two points, but I can tell you one thing: we need them for economic security,” he said.

Trump also criticized Jimmy Carter’s decision to return control of the Panama Canal to Panama during his presidency.

“The Panama Canal is a disgrace. What happened in the Panama Canal, Jimmy Carter gave them for $1, and they should have treated us well,” Trump said.

Trump also believes that Denmark should give up Greenland “for the sake of the free world,” reports Sky News.

“We need Greenland for the purpose of national security, I have been told about this for a long time,” he said.

On December 29, The Washington Post reported that in recent weeks, Trump has discussed the seizure of Greenland, the return of the Panama Canal and the proposal to make Canada the 51st state. These ideas may be related to his policy of opposition to Russia and China.

Greenland was a former colony of Denmark and remains part of the kingdom, which continues to control its foreign and security policies.

On December 23, US President-elect Donald Trump said he wanted Greenland to come under Washington’s control.

According to Axios, since 1867, the US government has repeatedly considered the possibility of buying or even tried to buy Greenland, the largest island on the planet that is not a continent.
