President-elect Donald Trump has announced that he plans to nominate Fox News anchor Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense.
“I am honored to announce that I have confirmed Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense in my Cabinet,” he wrote on Truth Social.
Trump noted that Hegseth spent his entire life as a warrior and named him “tough, smart and those who sincerely believe in the thesis America above all.”
“With Pete at the helm, America’s enemies must be on the alert – our military will be great again and America will never back down,” he said.
Hegseth was considered a candidate for the post of Secretary of Veterans Affairs in the Trump administration as early as 2017. He is an officer in the US Army National Guard and has served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
