Expansion of medical service packages for ex-pats announced Minister of Veteran Affairs Nataliya Kalmykova in an interview with “Interfax”.
According to her, a resolution on long-term treatment of veterans who have suffered significant health disorders is being prepared for consideration by the Cabinet of Ministers. In particular, we are talking about patients with spinal injuries or severe brain injuries.
“I think that we will start contracting at the end of the year [організації з Національною службою здоров’я України (НСЗУ)]and the service will begin to be provided from 2026”the minister added.
In addition, the department plans to start paying for the treatment of scars and scars of former soldiers. It is expected that the government will adopt the relevant resolution this year. Therefore, they will be able to start financing from 2026.
“It would seem that, on the one hand, this is such a fancy program, but on the other hand, the actual appearance means a lot for a person and his readiness to go to work, readiness to go out in general”Kalmykova explained.
The Ministry of Veterans Affairs says that, together with other departments, they are working on optimizing prosthetics programs. They also started work on an experimental project for the treatment of addictions among ex-servicemen there.
This is an initiative within the framework of which veterans will receive help in the fight against gambling, computer, alcohol and drug addictions.
“We are currently building what this state program should look like, because it should contain a whole series of measures – from prevention and verification of a person’s predisposition at the beginning of service to elements of treatment, support, assistance in employment, employment through sports.
In addition, models of what to do if a person has already committed a crime due to abuse will be taken into account.”the official explained.

Kalmykova announced a project on the habilitation, or social rehabilitation, of veterans – restoration of functions and skills for the possibility of independent living.
In particular, the program will include training in physical adaptation after injuries. Veterans will be helped to relearn household skills such as cooking and cleaning.
“This project will be launched this year, we have already sent the act for external approval. In this area, the public sector works a lot, independently looking for funds, but it must be different, and we, as the state, must undertake to support those who need habilitation measures.
Rehabilitation is about a person acquiring the ability to serve himself after medical rehabilitation. And that is why this project will answer the question: how can a person continue to live, how to be with his body, how to be with his life.” – says the minister.
