President Volodymyr Zelenskyi’s proposal to start supplying Ukrainian coal for the production of electricity to Transnistria is of a “speculative” nature. This opinion was expressed by the leader of Transnistria, a separatist region of Moldova, Vadym Krasnoselskyi, writes NewsMaker. According to him, the coal offered by Ukraine is not suitable for the Moldovan DRES, because it works on anthracite. “These are speculative options that we will provide coal and so on. I explain once again that our station technologically operates on anthracite. Ukraine offers coal that is not suitable for our station. We have two coal units. They operate on anthracite.” , Krasnoselskyi said. Advertising: Although the leader of Transnistria noted that the technical conversion of one of the power units to Ukrainian coal is possible, he noted that under “normal conditions”, which are not there, the process will take “more than a year and cost more than 50 million euros.” Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Ukraine is ready to supply coal to the Moldovan DRES, but could receive electricity from Tiraspol in return. “It’s fair: we give coal, they get electricity for themselves, for the whole of Moldova, we get electricity for ourselves,” the president summed up.Advertisement: Read also: Sector without gas. Why did Putin create an energy crisis in Transnistria? We will remind: Russian “Gazprom” announced that from January 1, 2025 it will stop gas supplies to Moldova’s Transnistria in connection with “non-fulfillment of payment obligations”. The energy companies of Moldova – Moldovagaz and Energocom are ready to assist Tiraspoltransgaz in the organization of gas purchases on any European platform on market terms. The cutoff of Russian gas supplies to Transnistria, a separatist region of Moldova, brought to a halt all industrial enterprises except those involved in food production. The authorities of Transnistria, a separatist region of Moldova, agreed to receive gas from Moldova in order to get out of the energy crisis faster. Gas reserves in Transnistria will last for several days, and coal for electricity generation at the Moldavian GRES will last until February 16-17 at the most.
