“The manufacturing enterprise completely eliminates all problems at its own expense and supplies a completely new batch of mines instead of those mines that have such defects. They will undergo stricter control – this particular batch and from this manufacturer – in order to avoid any problems in the future,” said the deputy.
According to him, the defect was discovered due to a change in weather conditions. Fyodor Venislavsky also stated that this shortage is not critical for the Defense Forces. And the military reception, which is responsible for the quality of ammunition, weapons and equipment received by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, will work in such a way as to prevent the recurrence of problems.
“The defect that was made was discovered because the air temperature dropped and the humidity increased. That is, it became the trigger that made it possible to find out that there are certain problems. This shortage is not critical for the security and defense sector. Although, of course, any abnormal operation – they have far-reaching consequences. Therefore, it is being clarified, and, I think, in the future, the Ministry of Strategic Industries, military reception will work in such a way as to prevent such a shortage. Although it should be understood that any types of ammunition and military equipment undergo military reception. Therefore, there is a complex reason: why the military reception did not detect this problem with mines. Law enforcement agencies will sort this out,” Venislavskyi said.
Deputy from the “Voice” party, Roman Kostenko, who is also a member of the committee on national security, defense and intelligence, believes that the defective mines that got to the front are the responsibility of the military reception, which works as part of the Ministry of Defense. This unit, according to the deputy, should be responsible.
“They have to control it at all stages, and now it is necessary to find out how good this control was, that they missed such a party that gave failures”, – the people’s deputy claims.
The Ministry of Defense announced on November 26 that for the third week it is actively investigating the causes of the abnormal activation of 120 mm mines. According to the department, the preliminary results of the investigation of the interdepartmental commission on the supply of low-quality mortar mines indicate the possible causes of defects, in particular, low-quality powder charges or violations of the storage conditions of ammunition, which led to their damage. The State Bureau of Investigation has started criminal proceedings on this fact.
