Ukraine managed to reach a separate format for the return of seriously ill and seriously injured Ukrainian prisoners from Russia, said Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense.

“Currently, repatriation has taken place – the mutual return of the seriously ill and seriously injured. This is a landmark event. Ukraine managed to enter a separate format for the return of seriously ill and seriously wounded Ukrainian defenders and civilians. We have been working on this for a long time, and a lot still needs to be done, but there is hope that the movement in this direction will be faster and more effective,” he said on the air of the national telethon.

According to Yusov, people with amputations and vision loss, gangrene, and oncology were returned from Russian captivity.

“Although it seems that 25 Ukrainians is not such an impressive number, it is a difficult separate operation. These are 25 saved lives of 25 families who saw their loved ones today and a well-founded hope for all those who are waiting to return from the hell of Russian captivity. The work is ongoing,” added the representative of the HUR.

On January 15, the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War announced the return of 25 seriously ill and wounded Ukrainians from Russian captivity.

According to the headquarters, among the repatriated servicemen are soldiers, sailors and sergeants who defended the Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, Donetsk directions, the city of Mariupol, in particular Azovstal. In addition, Kyiv was able to take away wounded Ukrainian servicemen from Kurshchyna. Also among those returned is a civilian captured by Russian forces in the Kyiv region.
