In the Ukrainian language, many words are often confused due to the similarity in sound, especially when it comes to variants with additional consonants. One of such examples is the verb “go”.

Let’s consider how to use this word correctly and why the option of driving is grammatically incorrect.

Correct form: I drive

I’m driving is the correct form of the verb, which is the first person singular (i) from the verb to drive. It is used in the sense of moving by means of transport or moving in a certain way.

For example: I go to work by bicycle.

According to Ukrainian grammatical rules, the correct suffix in this word is жж. This is due to the fact that the suffix -j- in the verb to ride changes to —жж- when the word changes to the first person of the present tense.

Why I drive is a mistake

Izju is a grammatically incorrect form, resulting from the transposition of sounds from verbs with a similar sound, for example, hoju. But in the Ukrainian language, the verb to drive does not change by analogy with ходжу and cannot form the form яджу.

So, the correct option is to go. The option of driving is a grammatically incorrect form that does not correspond to the norms of the Ukrainian language.
