The Security Service of Ukraine announced the neutralization of the FSB agent network that operated in Kyiv and the Kharkiv region. According to the SBU, the intruders spied on the location of the Ukrainian military and corrected Russian missile and drone strikes.
The SBU reported this on Saturday, January 18.
It is noted that the resident of the network, who worked as an engineer at the utility company Kyiv Metro, was recruited back in 2015 during his stay in Moscow. Cyber specialists of the SBU established the identity of his Russian curator.
“A recruited agent was put on “standby mode” and “uncanned” after the start of a full-scale war via a messenger message. He was immediately instructed to create an agent network. The task of this group was to collect information about the locations of bases and routes of movement of Ukrainian troops and their cargo, as well as to target them with rocket and drone attacks by the Rashists,” the message reads.
According to law enforcement officers, the resident recruited acquaintances to work in the Russian Federation – a man from Kharkiv who left the military after mobilization and worked for Ukrzaliznytsia for 10 years, as well as a driver of international road transport.
His task was to monitor the movement of the military echelons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the driver – under the guise of work trips – to merge the coordinates of checkpoints and units of the Ukrainian forces. The organizer’s mother and brother were also involved in agent activities, the SBU noted.
“The head of the agent group received the “necessary” geolocations from his henchmen, summarized them and submitted the “reports” to his Russian curator. According to the investigation, the resident personally launched missile strikes on Kyiv, which is confirmed by his intercepted conversations,” law enforcement officers write.
The SBU detained a resident of the network in Kyiv, and a deserter in Kharkiv. During the searches, they seized mobile phones with evidence of cooperation with the Russian Federation, as well as firearms, which were sent for examination.
Two detainees and two relatives of the organizer were notified of suspicion under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- h 2 Art. 28, ch. 2 Art. 111 (treason committed by a group of persons under martial law according to a prior conspiracy);
- ▪ ch. 1, 3 Art. 436−2 (justification, recognition as legitimate, denial of armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).
The third member of the network – a driver of international flights – is currently hiding abroad, the issue of his international search is being resolved. Perpetrators face from 8 years of imprisonment to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
