Pilot-instructor, reserve colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Roman Svitan explained on Radio NV how the recent strikes on the territory of Russia, in particular on the Engels airfield, and the missile attack on Ukraine are connected.
It was a combined attack, mostly aimed at our energy facilities, at the western part of Ukraine. They tried, most likely, to get to the gas storages, to the pumping stations – alaverdas, if you can say, after the strikes on the Russian oil tanker.
Tu-22 mostly carry Kh-22 missiles, that is, it is the main carrier of these missiles. And the Russians tried, perhaps, just to overturn the planes. That is, there was an ascent with a training flight, or at least certain tasks were performed.

And what “we are grinding” for almost a week now [аеродром] Engels, it is already clear: the task is to completely disable. There is such an opportunity.
About five days ago there were strikes on the Crystal base.
What is Crystal base? This is the warehouse of fuel and lubricants of the Engels-2 airfield.

Engels and Saratov are practically one big city separated by the Volga: Saratov is on the right bank of the Volga, Engels is on the left bank of the Volga.
An oil refinery was hit in Saratov yesterday. Here, the specific arrival of drones is still burning. And another strike on the Crystal base, but this is already in Engels, on the left bank of the Volga.

They are very much afraid of this influence. And now they are taking all measures to prevent it from being blown up or somehow getting to it – they cover plugs, latches, turn off entire routes so that they cannot be set on fire. That’s why the Russians have a serious kipish there.
Indeed, someone from our special services took note of the condition of the Engels heating lines and began to give an opportunity “to warm up” even at this Crystal base.
Therefore, such a massive blow, which was inflicted on Engels, made it impossible for airplanes to take off from Engels. Therefore, today they mostly worked from Savasleika, from Elenia. That is, the Tu-95 and Tu-22 were rising from Olenia. However, they sat down precisely on Engels.
So, in the near future, they will work from there as well. You have to be extremely careful. This may not be a single attack, but may be repeated in the near future.
