In an interview with Radio NV, military journalist Andrii Tsaplienko told how bad the situation is at the front, why there is a lack of personnel, and for what reasons the idea that Tomahawk missiles will appear in Ukraine should not be rejected.
— Major General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Dmytro Marchenko said that the front in Donbas has crumbled. I will quote: “I will not reveal a military secret if I say that our front has collapsed, unfortunately, the Russians entered Selidove and are entrenched there. I think that in the near future they will bypass it and capture it completely, which will give them a tactical exit to Pokrovsk. This is very bad for us.” How do you feel about such a statement by the Ukrainian general?
— I think General Marchenko is simply sounding the alarm so that all those who depend on making the right decisions regarding the situation in Donbas react quickly and efficiently.
As I recall, he said “in some places”, did not say that the front completely collapsed. It would be wrong to say that. Because there are sections of the front where, fortunately, our military is confidently holding the defense. There are problem areas, but they are problematic because of the key problem — the lack of personnel.
In the Donbass, in particular in the area of Selidovo, when the Russians now started this extreme wave of their offensive, they even transferred an entire brigade from the Pokrovsky direction to Selidovo, in order to solve the issue for themselves by capturing the city. They realized that it was enough for them to wait, to transfer people in large numbers in the direction of Selidovoy, that is, to stop the advance on Pokrovsk. And solve for yourself in a “positive” way the problem of capturing Selydovoy. So they solved this problem.
The picture is unpleasant, but not apocalyptic. What should Ukraine do to turn the tide of the war or at least achieve parity with the Russian Federation — NV interview
But I know that the 15th brigade, which held and is holding the defense there, are really just tigers and lions, because they fought and are fighting against the Russians heroically, sometimes in a ratio of 1:10. The Russians have great losses, our losses are also considerable, but when the ratio is 1:10, when the Russians do not spare their people, and for us every quality fighter is worth his weight in gold, then these losses are painful enough for us.
There is nothing surprising in the fact that this happened. It’s just that the 15th brigade did everything possible to make it happen as late as possible. This is my opinion.
— You said that General Marchenko is sounding the alarm so that you react quickly. What do you think this quick reaction should or could be?
— It seems to me that this should be a comprehensive response: the issue of additional staffing, rapid training of people, the issue of Western aid and, no matter how strange it sounds, the use of long-range American weapons.
