Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine, Ambassador of Ukraine to the EU in 2010-2015, Head of the Center for New Solutions Kostyantyn Eliseev summarizes the diplomatic results of 2024 on Radio NV: shortcomings, achievements, and also analyzes which events became the main “show” and creativity this year.

What’s more, unfortunately, if we analyze the foreign policy results, the dismissal of the year is the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba.
Unfortunately, despite all the promises and PR, the peace summit ended without results. Analyzing the results of the year, I would put him in the rubric “show of the year”.
That is, these are the things that show that, unfortunately, we have not yet managed to seize the initiative.
Although, on the other hand, we also have the positives of the year, which give us hope for the positive in 2025. For example, I believe that this year, thanks to the European Union, we laid the foundations for financial stability in Ukraine.
I would call the 2024 plan the well-known EU mechanism for supporting Ukraine, the so-called Ukraine Facility, when we were allocated 50 billion euros.
Of course, I would also celebrate the creative of the year. This is when our partners, in particular the G7, decided to transfer funds from the profits from frozen Russian assets to Ukraine. And even the United States agreed with it.
The hope of the year is F-16s and long-range missiles.
Another victory this year was that Ukraine officially started negotiations on joining the European Union.
Of course, we also have an optimist of the year. After all, I would not despise such a person as [президент Франції] Emmanuel Macron, with his ideas, still theoretical, about peacekeepers to support and help us restore peace on the territory of Ukraine.
But the key thing that gives me reasons for optimism and hope for victory is that we have and remain the diplomat of the year, the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is the factor that will help us win. And we have to support them in every possible way and unite around them.

And of course we have the key, we still have the wildcard of the year, which gives me hope to win. Joker of the year, I believe, this is my subjective view, is [майбутній президент США] Donald Trump. It can really make a difference.
So, based on all these, so to speak, nuances, I remain an optimist. Perhaps some will criticize me, but we should, based on the results of 2024 – with these shortcomings and positives – enter the next year with greater optimism.
