Experts from the European Center for Climate Change Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) and the Copernicus Atmospheric Monitoring Service (CAMS) said that 2025 was the third warmest year on record.
This is stated in the press release of C3S.
“The Copernicus data show that 2025 was the third warmest year on record, only 0.01°C cooler than 2023 and 0.13°C cooler than 2024, the warmest year on record,” climate scientists said.
It is noted that the last 11 years have become the 11th warmest in the entire history of observations.
“The average global temperature over the last three years (2023-2025) was more than 1.5°C higher than pre-industrial levels (1850-1900). This is the first time that the limit of 1.5°C has been exceeded in a three-year period,” climate scientists added.
Experts also noted that the air temperature over the world’s land was the second highest, while the Antarctic had the highest annual temperature on record, and the Arctic had the second highest annual temperature.
Based on current rates of warming, the 1.5°C limit on long-term global warming set by the Paris Agreement could be reached as early as the end of this decade – more than a decade earlier than predicted based on rates of warming at the time the agreement was signed.
