Since the beginning of 2024, the crisis and legal support hotline of the Ukrainian Veterans Fund has received more than 14,500 calls.

Acting Executive Director of the Ukrainian Veterans Fund (VWF) Nina Rogovets said this in an interview with Ukrinform.

“In general, during the project, we received more than 37,000 applications. Since the beginning of this year, there have been more than 14,500 appeals. This is not only crisis support from psychologists, but also legal assistance,” Rogovets said.

Veterans are interested in legal issues, issues related to employment, starting a business, social benefits, and among the most common were obtaining housing or compensation for housing that is appropriate for receiving, passing VLK/MSEK, obtaining the status of a participant in hostilities, using veteran benefits, and others.

In addition, many have difficulties in the process of returning to civilian life, which are easier to overcome with the help of psychologists.

“People mostly turn to us in crisis situations, when they cannot cope with stress and their emotions on their own, so it happened that line psychologists prevented suicides, called an ambulance, even at night, to avoid fatal consequences,” Rogovets emphasized.

It is worth reminding that the free crisis help and support hotline from the Ukrainian Veterans Fund (VF) started working on June 27, 2022.

Veterans and their family members can receive immediate emotional support, crisis care, psychological first aid at the hotline, and services are provided by professional and crisis psychologists.

The initiative is implemented by the Ukrainian Veterans Fund of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs with the support of the Ukrainian IREX Rapid Response Fund and the US State Department.

Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada passed the law on the veteran’s e-identity card, which will now be the main document. He also adds the term “trauma” as a reason for acquiring the status of a person with a disability as a result of war.

Also, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted draft law No. 11007 in the first reading, aimed at forming a comprehensive approach to domestic policy in the field of veterans’ support. As a basis, the document was supported by 302 deputies.
