In New York, the bodies of three people who died as a result of severe frost were found on the streets. According to the police, a 67-year-old man was found on the sidewalk in Manhattan. Later, two more dead were found in Brooklyn – a man in his 30s and a woman in her 60s. Law enforcement officials confirmed that all three deaths were weather-related.

New York Mayor Zoran Mamdani’s direct speech: “We’re expecting at least 8-9 inches of snow (about 20-23 cm – ed), and probably more. It won’t just be snow. The storm will also bring with it bitterly cold temperatures and a prolonged period of cold temperatures that will last all of next week.”

Details: Due to bad weather, airlines canceled more than 11,000 flights scheduled for the weekend. Carriers have urged passengers to reschedule their trips as the storm threatens to cause further airport disruptions.

The number of blackouts across the country approached 135,000. The southern states, which are not used to such weather conditions, were the most affected. Almost 60,000 subscribers were left without power in Texas, significant outages were also recorded in Louisiana and New Mexico.

Public transport has stopped working in several regions. NJ Transit, the third-largest U.S. transit system, temporarily halted bus and subway service. In Austin (Texas), the work of municipal transport was completely stopped on Saturday afternoon.

According to the head of the National Guard Bureau, Gen. Steven Nordhaus, hundreds of military personnel from 12 states have been mobilized to fight the powerful storm that has now swept the country.

“They are working together with interagency partners to clear roads, help stranded drivers and support communities in need,” Nordhaus wrote on the X social network.
