The USA proposed the format of joint negotiations with Ukraine and the Russian Federation – Zelensky

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at a joint press conference with Prime Minister of Portugal Luiz Montenegro on Saturday in Kyiv that the United States offered to hold “peace talks” together with representatives of Ukraine and Russia and, possibly, European states.

Zelensky’s direct speech: “The United States of America said that they will have a separate meeting with representatives of Russia, and they proposed the following format, as far as I understand it: Ukraine, America, “Russian” – and since there are representatives of Europe, therefore, probably Europe. Why do I say for sure? Because it would be logical to hold such a joint meeting.”

Details: According to the president, it would be appropriate to hold such a joint meeting “if we understand the potential outcome of the meeting that has already taken place, America-Ukraine.”

“We will understand whether there is a positive there or not. And we will understand and push back from this,” Zelenskyy added.

What happened before:

• The Secretary of the NSDC, Rustem Umyerov, announced late in the evening on December 19 that the meeting of the Ukrainian negotiating delegation with the American and European partners had ended.
• American negotiators are set to meet with Russian officials in Florida on Saturday for the latest round of talks aimed at ending Russia’s war in Ukraine.
