According to the president, most points of future bilateral agreements have already been agreed upon. Currently, they are issued in the form of five documents, but it is possible that one more will appear.
At the same time, there are still issues that require additional discussions. One of the key ones is the validity period of security guarantees. “I think we need more than 15 years,” Zelensky emphasized. The president specified that he would consider it a great achievement if US President Donald Trump agreed with the need for a longer period of validity of the agreement.
According to Zelenskyi, the security guarantees are planned to be submitted for ratification in the legislative bodies of both countries. This means that the document must be approved by both the US Congress and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Separately, the president noted the work of the American and Ukrainian negotiation teams. In particular, he positively assessed the contribution of the US President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, as well as the work of the Ukrainian delegation led by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umyerov.
Zelensky emphasized that the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine is of strategic importance, especially in view of the protracted war and the search for stable and long-term protection mechanisms against future threats.
