The Ukrainian negotiating team was invited to visit the United States after the special representative of the American leader Steve Witkoff met with the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga, UNIAN reports.
According to Sybiga, the representatives of the American delegation reported that, in their opinion, “talks in Moscow had a positive meaning for the peace process”, and therefore “invited the Ukrainian delegation to continue our talks in America in the near future.”
The head of the Ukrainian delegation, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umyerov, already called Witkoff after his meeting with Putin, although for security reasons the details of the meeting in Moscow were not discussed. At the same time, Umerov continues consultations on peace negotiations with officials of France, Britain and Germany, coordinating positions and assessing the progress achieved.
It will be recalled that the details of the peace plan for Ukraine were discussed at a meeting in the Kremlin between Putin and the special envoy of the American president, Steve Witkoff, but the negotiations did not yield results.
The planned talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi and the American delegation headed by the special envoy of the US President Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Brussels did not take place.
