According to him, a group of citizens was let through the Sheghini checkpoint. All of them had documents confirming Ukrainian citizenship or special certificates for return. The USA informed the Ukrainian side in advance about the deportation of persons who are not US citizens, but are natives of Ukraine.
Demchenko emphasized that the border guards processed the arrivals in accordance with the law, and added that Ukraine “accepts its citizens in any case.” Currently, the DPSU together with other competent bodies are investigating the grounds on which the US decided to forcibly expel them.
