Details: Ratcliffe became the second, after Secretary of State Mark Rubio, to be officially confirmed as a member of the new Trump administration.
Ratcliffe was director of national intelligence during Trump’s first term.
74 senators voted for him, 25 against him.
At a Senate hearing last week, Ratcliffe said the CIA must do better when it comes to using technology such as artificial intelligence to counter adversaries including Russia and China. He said the United States needs to improve its intelligence capabilities while protecting Americans’ civil rights.
Ratcliffe said he would push for the CIA to make greater use of technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing, and to expand its use of human information gathering.
While some Democrats have questioned Ratcliffe’s ability to objectively lead the CIA, Republicans have praised his experience and said they look forward to confirming Trump’s remaining national security nominees.
What preceded: Last November, Trump announced his intention to appoint former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe to the position of director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
We will remind: Ratcliffe believes that due to Russia’s war against Ukraine, the US risks entering into a conflict with a “nuclear country”.
