The United States has said it was not involved in the killing of Russian General Igor Kirillov during an operation claimed by Ukraine.

“I can tell you that the United States had no prior knowledge of this and was not involved,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said at a briefing.

“He was a general who participated in many atrocities. He was involved in the use of chemical weapons against the Ukrainian military. This is because the US previously publicly assessed that the Russian military under his leadership would use substances… in violation of the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons,” the State Department representative added.

Earlier, the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Maria Zakharova, accused Ukraine’s Western allies of being “complicit” in this murder in Moscow.

An informed source in the Security Service of Ukraine told Radio Svoboda that the explosion that killed Lieutenant General Ihor Kyrylov, the head of the radiation, chemical and biological defense forces of the Russian Armed Forces in Moscow on the morning of December 17, was a special operation of the Security Service of Ukraine.

Earlier, the Investigative Committee of Russia confirmed the death of Kirillov and his assistant as a result of an explosion in Moscow. According to the version of the investigation, the explosive device was planted in a scooter standing next to the entrance.

Kirillov was 54 years old. He has held the post of chief of the radiation, chemical and biological defense forces of Russia since May 2017.

Lieutenant General Ihor Kyrylov was under the sanctions of Great Britain. He was accused of being involved in the use of chemical weapons in Ukraine and spreading disinformation.

Earlier, the US and its allies concluded that Russia used the poisonous substance chloropicrin against the Ukrainian military.

The day before, the Security Service of Ukraine informed that it had announced suspicion in absentia to the head of the radiation, chemical and biological protection forces of the Russian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Ihor Kyrylov.

Law enforcement officers noted that “it was he who was responsible for the use of chemical weapons by Russian troops on the eastern and southern fronts against Ukrainian defenders.”
