As the Southern Command of the US Armed Forces reported on the X social network, the military detained the motor ship Sagitta “without incident”.
“The detention of yet another tanker operating in defiance of President Trump’s quarantine of sanctioned vessels in the Caribbean demonstrates our determination to ensure that the only oil leaving Venezuela is oil that is properly and legally coordinated,” the statement said.

The vessels intercepted so far were either under US sanctions or were part of the “shadow fleet” of vessels that disguise their origin to transport oil from countries under sanctions – Iran, Russia or Venezuela.
On January 14, the Reuters agency, citing its sources, wrote that the American prosecutor’s office applied to federal courts for warrants for the so-called civil confiscation of oil tankers transporting Venezuelan oil – dozens of vessels and their cargo may be confiscated.
The confiscation of the tankers is part of the strategy of the White House, which has announced its intention to control the export and production of Venezuelan oil in order to obtain funds for the recovery of Venezuela’s oil production industry. In December, the US effectively blocked oil exports from Venezuela.
