The United States will provide Ukraine with $3.4 billion in direct budget support – Ministry of Finance

The United States of America will provide Ukraine with $3.4 billion in direct budget support, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced on December 30.

“Our direct budget support to Ukraine comes at a critical time when Russia is intensifying its attacks on Ukrainian civilians and critical infrastructure. Economic assistance from the United States and our allies is critical to Ukraine’s ability to protect its sovereignty and achieve a just peace by supporting the critical public services that underpin its valiant struggle,” the statement said.

This assistance is the final payment of funds allocated in accordance with the bipartisan law on additional appropriations for the security needs of Ukraine for 2024.

“Our direct budget support, as before, is conditioned by reforms related to the strengthening of law enforcement agencies, increasing the transparency and efficiency of state institutions, as well as strengthening anti-corruption norms and procedures,” the message reads.

The payment came after the United States fulfilled its part of the G7 credit initiative to provide Ukraine with $50 billion in proceeds from frozen Russian assets.

Earlier on Monday, the administration of US President Joe Biden announced the allocation of a military aid package worth almost 2.5 billion dollars to Ukraine.

The day before, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that the US is preparing an “important decision” to support Ukraine, namely “significant support packages” for the Armed Forces.

According to the State Department, since the start of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation as of the beginning of December, the United States has provided Ukraine with approximately $61.4 billion in military aid. Specifically, since August 2021, Washington has used the PDA program 55 times for a total of approximately $31.7 billion.
