“The Pentagon will send at least $275 million worth of new weapons to Ukraine as the Biden administration rushes to do everything it can to help Kiev push back against Russia before President-elect Donald Trump takes office,” writes AP with reference to American officials, who indicated that it is about air defense equipment, shells, other equipment and spare parts.

The weapons are said to be provided under the PDA program, which allows the Pentagon to quickly provide supplies from its shelves to expedite their delivery to the front lines in Ukraine.

In addition to the weapons, the US State Department said on Tuesday that it had authorized the sale of $100 million worth of unspecified defense equipment and services to Ukraine, including vehicle refurbishment, technical assistance, training and “other associated elements of logistics and program support”. Unlike PDA, the government of Ukraine will pay for it, the publication indicates.

As part of a broader effort to support Ukraine, the U.S. administration is also said to be on track to commit its portion of a $50 billion loan to Ukraine secured by frozen Russian assets before Biden leaves the White House, according to two senior administration officials.

The officials, who were not authorized to comment publicly, said the U.S. and Ukraine are now in the “advanced stages” of discussing the terms of the loan and hope to finalize the $20 billion portion of the loan to be provided by the United States. The goal is to do so by the end of the year, one official said. The remaining 30 billion dollars will come, in particular, from the European Union, Great Britain, Canada and Japan.
