The United Kingdom has stopped investigating Microsoft’s partnership with Openai due to the lack of signs of monopoly. Reuters writes about it.
According to the competition management and Markets (CMA), Bill Gates does not have such a level of control over the Chatgpt developer so that further investigation is justified.
The consideration of the issue began last year after the scandalous departure and further return of Sam Altman to the post of CEO Openai.
The regulator stressed that Microsoft had a significant impact on the SI-startup in 2019, but has not received actual management and therefore does not fall under the control of the merger control in the United Kingdom.
The corporation representative stated that the partnership with OpenAi and its further development “contribute to the competition, innovation and responsible development of the AI.”
“We congratulate CMA’s conclusion about the completion of the investigation, made after a thorough and weighted consideration of commercial realities,” he said.
Earlier, US District Judge Ivonne Gonzalez Rogers rejected Ilona Mask’s request to ban Openai into a commercial organization.
Recall that in July 2024 Microsoft withdrew its representative from the observer to the OpenAi Directors.
