The UN and partners are calling on the organization’s donors to allocate $3.32 billion within two humanitarian plans for 2025 to support 8.2 million Ukrainians.

This was stated by UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher and UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.

The UN noted that within the framework of the humanitarian needs and response plan in Ukraine, humanitarian organizations aim to help 6 million people this year by providing food, medical and financial aid, housing support, access to education in emergency situations, protection services, etc. With sufficient funding and access, aid workers can continue to help across the country, including in communities near the front lines.

The plan calls for $2.62 billion, with a focus on the most vulnerable populations, including children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

“The people of Ukraine have shown incredible courage during these years. We must respond by showing genuine international engagement. When I say support, it’s about being there as much as you need to meet the needs,” Fletcher said.

Within the framework of the second plan – responding to the needs of refugees – in 2025 and 2026, humanitarian organizations will support 11 countries in the region that will provide expanded protection services to include more than 2 million of the most vulnerable refugees from Ukraine. According to the UN, this will provide access to housing, work, medical support, and specialized legal services. Partners will provide cash assistance to the most vulnerable people to meet their basic needs, primarily supporting children from risk groups and victims of gender-based violence. For these needs, the UN needs 690.3 million dollars in 2025. In total, in 2025-2026, the Organization will need 1.2 billion dollars to help refugees.

“Remember that almost 7 million Ukrainian refugees are outside the country. Our plan does not cover all countries that have accepted refugees, because most governments can cover the support of Ukrainian refugees… These are countries like Poland, which has accepted the most, Moldova, which needs additional international support,” said the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grundy.

Every year, the UN publishes a request for donor funds to implement humanitarian response plans for Ukraine. These plans determine the humanitarian needs of the country, the amount of financial resources, the areas of activity and the time frame of the response. Donors are states, organizations and private individuals.

Earlier it was reported that the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Ukraine will provide assistance to another 70,000 Ukrainians. Payments are an additional measure of social support to existing state assistance.

In the first six months of 2023, about 7.3 million Ukrainians received various humanitarian aid from the UN.
