The UN General Assembly adopted an updated resolution on human rights in occupied Crimea

On Tuesday, December 17, the UN General Assembly adopted an updated resolution “Situation with human rights in the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukraine.”

Details: 81 countries voted for the UN General Assembly resolution on human rights in occupied Crimea, 80 abstained.

14 countries opposed the document: Belarus, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Eritrea, Iran, China, Cuba, Mali, Nicaragua, Niger, North Korea, Russia, Sudan and Zimbabwe.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sybiga thanked the UN General Assembly and the member states that adopted the resolution on Russia’s violation of human rights in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

“This year’s document adds focus on Russia’s brutal treatment of Ukrainian prisoners of war and their torture, as well as on the need to return forcibly deported Ukrainian children,” Sybiga emphasized.

Grateful to the UN General Assembly and all member states who adopted the resolution on Russia’s human rights violations in Ukraine’s temporarily occupied territories. According to him, the international community is firmly on the side of Ukraine and international law, global support for Ukraine “remains steadfast.”

Since 2016, the UN General Assembly annually adopts resolutions “Situation with human rights in the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukraine.” New formulations are constantly added to it.
