The transit of Russian oil through Ukraine has decreased to a minimum

During 2024, Ukraine transported about 11.36 million tons of Russian oil through the southern branch of the Druzhba oil pipeline.

About this informs profile publication ExPro.

“Compared to last year, the volume of transit of Russian oil decreased by 16%. It is also the lowest value since at least 2014, and probably in the entire history of Ukraine’s independence – since 1991,” the publication writes.

It is noted that the most Russian oil was supplied to Hungary last year – more than 4.7 million tons, which practically corresponds to the volume of supply in 2023. In addition, 3.9 million tons of oil (-15%) were transported to Slovakia and 2.7 million tons (-35%) to the Czech Republic.

According to ExPro estimates, Ukraine received almost UAH 10 billion, or $250 million, for the transit of Russian oil in 2024. For example, in 2023, the relevant revenues amounted to almost 9.4 billion UAH, or more than 255 million US dollars.

Oil transit from the Russian Federation continues in January. The average daily volume of transit in the first week of January was about 34.9 thousand. t – 14% more than in December.

We will remind:

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal declaresthat stopping the transit of oil through the Druzhba oil pipeline would be Ukraine’s violation of the Energy Charter Treaty and the Association Agreement with the European Union.

In the Verkhovna Rada registered draft law prohibiting the transit of Russian oil and gas through the territory of Ukraine during martial law.

Currently, Ukraine transports Russian oil through its territory via the Druzhba oil pipeline to European countries. The current contract is valid until the end of 2029.
