Tilda Swinton in the movie “End” / ARTHOUSE TRAFFIC PhotoThe Ukrainian trailer of the post -apocalyptic musical “The end” with Tilda Swinton (“Orlando”, “Only Lovers”, “Grand Budapest”, “Dr. Strand”, “Suspiria”, “Memory”) came out.
The events of the tape unfold in a luxurious underground bunker, where the family created its isolated world after a global catastrophe among the paintings and exquisite wines. The son, who was already born underground, has never seen a true sky, and parents and faithful servants carefully support the illusion of well -being. When a mysterious girl from another world appears on the threshold, their fragile harmony begins to collapse. Is this “ideal” family ready to meet the truth that awaits outside their artificial paradise?
“End” is the first player movie by Joshua Oppenheimer, a well-known director-documentary, a laureate of numerous awards for “Act of Murder” and “The Look of Silence”, which, among other things, were nominated for Oscar.
Also in the tape played a two -time nominee on “Oscar” Michael Shannon (“Form of Water”, “Night Beasts”, “Knives Verkhovna”), who got the role of the man of the main character Swinton. Meanwhile, the image of their screen son was embodied by George McKay, a Tropée Chopard Laureate of the Cannes Film Festival as a 2017 discovery, known for its roles in the films “1917”, “Munich. On the verge of war” and “Captain Fantastik”.
In addition, Mozes Ingram (Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ferze Gambite), armor Galllahler (series “Golota”), Tim Macinnernne (“Always. Always”) and Lenny James (“Walking Merzi” series) were also joined the cast.
Takd’s film contains productions with choreography from Tony’s Laureate Sam Pinklton and original songs written by the director himself. He drew inspiration in the musicals of the “Golden Age” and from his real trip to the bunker of one of the oil magnates.
The world premiere of the tape was held at the prestigious film festival at the Telluridid, with further shows within the official programs of the Film Festivals in Toronto and San Sebastian.
The Hollywood Reporter described the movie as “The incomparable post -apocalyptic musical”, and the play of the actors as “deeply devoted”. Meanwhile, Rolling Stone called the “cult movie” tape, Empire-“a bold and bold experiment with the form” and “uncompromising apocalyptic Odyssey”, and The Guardian-“Post-Pocalyptic La Land Land.”
However, judging by the assessments on popular cinema units, for the general public this experiment seemed too bold.
Currently, an IMDB movie rating is 5.4 out of 10 points, while on Rotten Tomatoes, it received 56% of critics and 36% of viewers. At the same time, at Metacritic, movie experts rated it at 65 out of 100 points (corresponds to the characteristics of “In general positive reviews”), and a wide audience – 5.6 out of 10 points (corresponds to “Mixed or Medium Reviews”).
According to the press service of the Arthous Traffic Cinema Company, the Ukrainian rental will be released on August 7, 2025.
