The Supreme Court confirmed that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) does not have the right to use the Transfiguration Cathedral in the National Architectural and Historical Reserve “Ancient Chernihiv”.
“On November 26, the Supreme Court of Ukraine as part of the Commercial Court of Cassation made an important decision rejecting the claim of the administration of the Chernihiv Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church regarding the right to use the Savior and Transfiguration Cathedral of the 11th century,” the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications said in a statement.
It is noted that the proceedings in the case in various courts lasted for more than a year and a half.
“However, the final decision in favor of the National Architectural and Historical Reserve “Ancient Chernihiv” confirmed the position of the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications regarding the need to comply with the requirements of the current legislation of Ukraine,” the department emphasized.
