The State Emergency Service massively uses drones and robots to eliminate the consequences of Russian attacks

The State Service of Ukraine for Emergency Situations is actively implementing drones and robotic systems to eliminate the consequences of emergency events, in particular after Russian attacks.

According to Ihor Getalo, the head of the department for organizing the work and use of unmanned systems, drones are now integrated into almost all areas of the service’s activities: “Our systems work on water, under water, on land, in the air, and even in fire. We use both conventional multi-rotor drones and wing-type drones, which allow us to create orthophoto plans and transmit live video from long distances.”

According to him, 95% of the units of the State Emergency Service are already equipped with drones, while work continues with ground robotic systems. In particular, firefighting is carried out by workers capable of working in areas of collapses, explosions or depressurization of objects, which allows to avoid risks for rescuers.

Also, pyrotechnicians use robots for remote destruction of explosive objects, in particular cluster munitions, and mechanized demining machines that speed up the clearing of de-occupied territories.

Getalo noted that after missile strikes, drones help to survey destroyed buildings, identify victims and make decisions about the safe admission of rescuers. This year, with the help of drones, it was possible to find 12 people in a forest area, including a child – thanks to a loudspeaker playing a children’s song.

The service uses drones with thermal imaging to detect fire outbreaks, tow robots and logistics systems to deliver equipment.

“No robot will replace a firefighter, but these systems save lives. In conditions when the enemy often repeats strikes on emergency sites, robots allow extinguishing to continue even under the threat of new attacks,” Getalo emphasized.

We will remind you that within two days, the Russians hit the center of Chernihiv three times with drones. The first strike occurred on the night of October 28, and the next two on the morning and late evening of the 29th.

In Chernihiv Oblast, during restoration work, Russian troops fired at the energy infrastructure, injuring workers and causing large-scale power outages in the Koryukiv district.
